Eco-friendly accommodations!

At ExplorHome, we recognize that our planet’s resources are not unlimited and that the tourism industry can have a significant impact on the climate and the environment.

We also recognize that the beauty of the natural surroundings helps ensure that you, our guests, have unforgettable moments with your loved ones at our accommodations!

For this reason, we wanted to make a tangible contribution to responsible and sustainable tourism in order to ensure that our guests have authentic and environmentally friendly experiences!

La Ferme d'Edouard, an eco-friendly place to stay in the Ardèche!

We earned the Clef Verte certification in 2024! 🎉

1. How can you tell if a lodging is eco-friendly?

It is important to look for signs of environmental responsibility to ensure a positive impact on the environment and avoid greenwashing, where companies give a false impression of sustainability. By choosing accommodations that are genuinely committed to sustainability, travelers support a more sustainable economy and contribute to responsible tourism. To identify an eco-friendly accommodation:

  •  Search for certifications and labels related to environmental management,
  •  Review sustainable practices for water, energy, and waste management,
  • Ensure that environmentally friendly products are used,
  • Observe whether the establishment encourages customers to adopt eco-friendly behaviors,
  • Find out about local environmental initiatives!

‍2. Our best practices for becoming eco-friendly accommodations:

During our latest renovation project in the Ardèche—the Ferme d’Edouard—we wanted to take concrete steps to back up our promises!

‍‍Choosing a clean energy source: geothermal energy!

  • What is geothermal energy? It’s a source of energy that harnesses the Earth’s heat to generate electricity and heat! It’s as if we had a natural heating system built right into our planet, without having to burn fossil fuels. It’s a sustainable solution for reducing our carbon footprint and protecting our environment.

‍As you can see, at La Ferme d’Edouard, we’ve chosen geothermal energy for heating and domestic hot water. We’ve combined this with geocooling, an eco-friendly solution we use to cool the house in the summer without using any extra electricity!

‍Choose our products and partners carefully!

For us, environmental responsibility goes far beyond mere words: it’s reflected in every decision we make—right down to the partners we choose!

  • ‍For our cleaning products and supplies, we prioritize products with the Ecocert or Ecolabel certification. These certifications guarantee high standards in terms of environmental impact and quality!
  • The hygiene products we provide are also carefully selected! We recently chose What Matters : a socially conscious, vegan, eco-friendly brand with Ecocert certification that offers organic products that are 100% Made in France!

Psst…we’ve said “bye-bye” to single-serve sizes and the waste that comes with them. We’ve chosen eco-friendly, large-size options!

  • For your children, we’ve selected gifts from MIM – Play and Explore, a company that supports local supply chains and is committed to the environment as a partner of 1% for the Planet.
  • And to treat your taste buds, we offer local fruit juices made from fruit grown in our family’s orchards in the Ardèche.

At ExplorHome, every detail is carefully considered with respect for the environment and our values!

We’re raising awareness among our teams and adapting to our environment!

At ExplorHome, we train our teams to be eco-friendly. We conserve water and electricity, use eco-friendly products, and work in harmony with nature!
‍For example, the pools are heated only when the weather permits to avoid excessive energy consumption. Located in the heart of nature, we’ve also installed an electric vehicle charging station right at the Ferme d’Edouard so that your carbon-neutral travel is easy and convenient!

3. Our Clef Verte certification

The Green Key label is an international environmental certification awarded to tourist accommodations that are committed to sustainable development. It recognizes establishments that incorporate environmentally and socially responsible practices into their day-to-day operations. To earn this label, accommodations must meet strict criteria regarding water and energy management, waste management, the use of environmentally friendly products, raising guest awareness, and contributing to the protection of local biodiversity. The Green Key label is a guarantee of quality and environmental responsibility for travelers concerned about the ecological impact of their Stay.

‍We are proud to announce that La Ferme d’Edouard by ExplorHome is among the 2024 recipients of the Clef Verte certification!

4. Become a sustainable traveler: We're counting on you!

Since every little action counts toward more responsible tourism, why not adopt a few simple eco-friendly habits during your stay with us?

  • ‍ When using the faucets, let the water run as little as possible!
  • Remember to turn off the lights and unplug electrical appliances when you leave a room. It’s a small action that can make a big difference in reducing our energy footprint!
  • ‍Do your part for the planet by sorting your trash! Recycling bins are available in and near each of our accommodations.
  • In winter, why not put on an extra sweater instead of turning up the heat? It’s good for the planet—and for your comfort!
  • Promote carbon-neutral travel!

All of our accommodations are located near train stations.

> Bourg-Saint-Maurice Station, near our mountain apartments in Tignes
> Valence Station, near the Ardèche farms in Labatie d’Andaure
> Annecy & Albertville Stations, near our future accommodations… but shh, we didn’t tell you anything!
